Importing a file

Import reads these formats:

  • GeoJSON and JSON;
  • Shapefile, as the .shp or a .zip holding its parts;
  • File geodatabase (.gdb) and personal geodatabase (.mdb);
  • GeoPackage (.gpkg);
  • KML and KMZ, GPX, DXF and DGN;
  • CSV and Excel (.xlsx) with coordinates in columns.

For a spreadsheet, name the columns that hold the latitude and longitude, or the one that holds the geometry, and the column that names each row's layer. Set the source coordinate system when the file does not carry one.

Preview import draws the file's features on the map before anything saves. The preview flags features that overlap ones already drawn in view. Leave those out to avoid duplicates. Confirming turns the features into drafts on their layers, and they save through your working version like any other edit.

Importing from an online service

Paste the address of an online feature service into the import window: an ArcGIS FeatureServer layer, or a collection from any server that speaks OGC API Features. Import adds its features the same way a file does.

To draw another organization's service live without copying it, add it as a reference layer in the Overlays window.

Exporting features

Export writes features in these formats:

  • GeoJSON (.geojson);
  • Shapefile (.shp.zip);
  • KML (.kml);
  • GeoPackage (.gpkg);
  • CSV with each geometry as text (.csv).

Choose what to export:

  • Current map view, Selected features, or Draw lasso to draw the area on the map;
  • Exclude layers to leave some out;
  • Coordinate system: search a name or type a code such as EPSG:2951. KML always uses latitude and longitude.

Every export carries the features' own fields. Include our record IDs adds Aptli's identifiers, for importing the file back into Aptli.

A picture or a PDF of the map

Export also saves PNG image of this view and PDF of this view, with the legend and a scale bar. Open the legend first to include it. ⋯ More › Snapshot (PNG) saves the picture in one press.

Importing other records

Lists such as people, sites and roles import from a spreadsheet too. Their create window has a Multiple records tab, with a CSV and an Excel template to download and fill in.
